How this PDF compressor works

The tool renders each PDF page as an image at the resolution and quality you select, then builds a new PDF from those optimized page images. This can greatly reduce scanned documents, slide decks, and image-heavy PDFs. All processing happens within your browser.

Choose the right setting

The balanced option is a practical starting point. Choose a smaller resolution for email attachments or quick previews. Choose sharper pages when small text must remain easy to read. After downloading, inspect several pagesespecially fine print, charts, and signaturesbefore deleting the original.

An important tradeoff

Because pages are rebuilt as images, selectable text, searchable text, form fields, annotations, links, and some accessibility features may be flattened. For text-first PDFs that are already compact, the new file may not be smaller. This tool is best for image-heavy documents where visual delivery matters more than preserving document structure.

Security and privacy

The source PDF is read into your device's browser memory and is not sent to SnappyFreeTools. Closing or refreshing the page clears the working session. As with any sensitive document, confirm that your browser and device are trusted before opening it.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my PDF become larger?
A text-only PDF may already store content more efficiently than page images. Use the original when compression does not improve it.

Will searchable text remain searchable?
No. This compression method rasterizes each page.

Is there a size limit?
There is no artificial limit, but large documents require more memory and processing time.
