Choosing JPG, PNG, or WebP
JPG works well for photographs and other images with many gradual color changes. PNG preserves sharp edges and transparency, making it useful for logos, screenshots, diagrams, and graphics. WebP can store photographs or transparent graphics and often produces a smaller delivery file in modern browsers.
What happens to transparency?
PNG and WebP can preserve transparent pixels. JPG cannot, so this converter places transparent areas on a white background when JPG is selected. If a logo or cutout needs a transparent background, choose PNG or WebP.
Quality and file size
The quality slider affects JPG and WebP output. Lower settings usually make smaller files but can introduce blocks, blur, or color artifacts. PNG conversion is lossless through the browser canvas and does not use the quality value. Always inspect the downloaded result at the size where it will be used.
Batch conversion
Select multiple images, choose one output format, and image-compressor/" class="internal-link">convert the group. Each finished file receives the new extension and can be downloaded individually. The original files remain unchanged on your device.
Limitations
Browser canvas conversion may remove embedded camera metadata such as EXIF information. Extremely large images can consume substantial device memory. Keep an original copy, especially when metadata or archival quality matters.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. Conversion happens on your device.
Will converting a JPG to PNG restore lost detail?
No. PNG prevents additional lossy encoding, but it cannot recreate information previously discarded by JPG compression.
