How this meme generator works
Upload any image from your device, type your top and bottom text, and watch the meme update live as you type. Text automatically wraps and renders in the classic bold white lettering with a black outline the style popularized by early 2010s meme formats like Impact font captions on Advice Animals and reaction images. When it looks right, download it as a PNG ready to share.
A little meme history
The "image plus bold caption" meme format traces back to sites like 4chan and early meme-generator tools in the late 2000s and 2010s, which standardized the look: a stock or reaction image with a setup line on top and a punchline on the bottom. That simple template proved so flexible that it spread across nearly every platform and is still instantly recognizable today, even as meme culture has evolved into videos, GIFs, and more layered formats.
Image size and format tips
For the sharpest result, upload an image that's at least 600-800 pixels wide smaller images can look blurry once stretched to fit the canvas. JPG and PNG both work well; PNG is a better choice if your source image has transparency or sharp text you want to keep crisp. Very tall or very wide images will still work, but square-ish or landscape images tend to leave more room for readable top and bottom text.
Using images responsibly
Only upload images you own or have the right to use a photo you took yourself, one you have a license for, or one that's clearly in the public domain. Many popular meme templates using movie stills, celebrity photos, or copyrighted artwork exist in a legal gray area under fair use for commentary and parody, but that protection isn't guaranteed, especially for commercial use. When in doubt, stick to your own photos or properly licensed stock images.
FAQ
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No everything happens locally in your browser using the HTML canvas. Your image never leaves your device or gets sent to a server.
Can I use copyrighted images?
Only use images you have the right to use. This tool doesn't check image sources or ownership, so the responsibility for what you upload and share is yours.
What image formats can I upload?
Any common image format your browser can display, including JPG, PNG, GIF (first frame only), and WebP.
Is there a size limit on the text?
Top and bottom text is capped at 80 characters each, which keeps captions readable at typical meme dimensions without overflowing the image.
Can I make transparent or animated memes?
This tool exports a single static PNG image, so transparency in your source image is preserved but animation, like an animated GIF, is not the download will be one still frame.
Why does my text look small on a large image?
Text size is scaled to fit the image proportionally, so a very large or high-resolution photo may show comparatively smaller lettering. Cropping the image tighter before uploading usually gives more prominent text.
