Calculate by points, not by averaging percentages

When assignments have different point values, add all points earned and divide by all points possible. Averaging the individual percentages would give a ten-point quiz the same influence as a one-hundred-point exam. The calculator keeps the weighting proportional to the available points.

Worked assignment example

If you earned 18 of 20, 42 of 50, and 88 of 100, you earned 148 of 170 available points. Dividing 148 by 170 gives 87.06%. Add every scored assignment for the most complete current average.

Final exam formula

The needed final score is calculated from your current grade, the final's percentage of the course, and your desired overall grade. If the final is worth 25%, your current work represents the other 75%. The result may be above 100%, which means the stated target is not reachable through the final alone, or below zero, which means the target is already secured mathematically.

Check your syllabus

Courses may use weighted categories, drop the lowest assignment, offer extra credit, or round grades differently. This calculator handles point-based assignments and a single final-exam weight. Use the grading policy from your instructor when it differs.
